hen you say the word casino, roulette is the first game most people think of. Roulette is played at casinos all over the world
and the game is basically the same everywhere. There are however certain differences. At some casinos, both French and American
Roulette are played. Casino Cosmopol only plays one type of American roulette using a single zero, and the rules set out below apply to this game.
This rule-book is divided into two parts. The first is a brief summary of everything you need to know to start playing at the
roulette table. The other is more comprehensive and describes the game in detail.
The main points of roulette
Roulette is played with a wheel that has alternating red and black numbers between 1 and 36. There is also zero, which is green.
At the start of the game, all the players buy chips in individual colours and place their bets on the table. As the player,
you decide how many chances of winning you want your bet to have. The greater the chances of winning, the lower the winning odds.
You win if you bet on the right number or colour. You can also bet on high or low numbers, and odd or even numbers. If the ball
falls on zero, all players who have bet on other numbers lose their stakes. Players placing outside bets on high or low, odd or
even, or red or black numbers, lose half their stakes if zero happens to be the winning number.
The wheel and the table
A roulette wheel is divided into 37 compartments that are numbered from 0 to 36. The numbers are alternately black and
red except for the zero, which is green. In ”real” American roulette, there is also a double zero, but this does not apply
to the version played at Casino Cosmopol. The wheel is placed on a table on which there is a square for every number. It is
also possible to place so-called ”outside” bets, which pay 1 x the bet. These are bets on black or red, high or low and odd
or even numbers. In addition, the player may choose to bet on dozens or columns. Such bets pay 2 x the bet. All betting
possibilities are presented under the section headed “Bets”, which also describes how the chips should be placed on the table.
Spinning the wheel
To start each game, the dealer must spin the wheel. This must always be done in the direction opposite to that in which the wheel
was spun in the last game. The ball is then thrown in the opposite direction to the wheel’s rotation. The ball is generally made of
hard plastic and has a diameter of between 18 and 22 millimetres.
The dealer must spin the ball with such force that it spins at least seven times the length of the wheel’s edge before falling
into the numbered compartments. Players may place their bets right up to the moment when the ball only has approximately three
full spins left, after which the dealer says ”No more bets, please”. After that, no more bets may be placed or changes made.
The rotation speed of the wheel shall also be such that one full revolution takes at least three seconds.
When the ball stops
When the ball falls and stops in one of the compartments, the dealer marks the winning number with a marker and then clearly calls out the number, colour and other winning outside bets, such as whether the number is even or odd or high or low.
No spin
If anything falls into the wheel while the ball is spinning, the dealer calls out ”No spin” and immediately stops the game.
The ball is removed and the game starts again from the last winning number.
Odds and winnings
The following is an illustration of how to place your chips for each playing possibility. In addition to the listed winnings,
winners also get to retain their original bets. Minimum and maximum bets are specified at each gaming table.

Neighbour prints
On the side of the roulette table, you will see a tableau where you can place your bets in the order in which the numbers
occur on the wheel and where the dealer will place your chips for you.
This area allows you to cover a range of numbers with your chips if you believe that the ball will land on a particular section of the wheel.
The phrase usually used is “12 neighbours” as you hand over 5 chips to the dealer, who will then place them all on 12
(the dealer is the only person allowed to place chips on this area). This bet covers the numbers 12, 35, 3, 28 and 7 - i.e.
two “neighbours” to the right of 12 and two to the left. You can also bet on 4 other series - see below for details of
how many chips this will cost you and the numbers covered by bets of this kind. Series 0/2/3 (Grand Series):
0/2/3 (known as a “street”) comprises these three numbers and 2 of the 9 chips are placed here. 4/7 (known as a split)
comprises these two numbers and involves placing 1 chip here.
12/15 split 1 chip
18/21 split 1 chip
19/22 split 1 chip
25/29 corner 2 chips
32/35 split 1 chip
A total of 9 chips
Series 5/8 (Small series):

Zer0-game: 0/3 split 12/15 split 26 straight up 32/35 split A total of 4 chips
Gambling chips
In American Roulette, each player has his or her own chips and different colours are used for each player.
The chips are valid at the table of initial purchase. No value is specified on the chips. Unless otherwise desired,
all chips have the same value as the table’s minimum bet. Players may however choose the value of their chips,
although this value must of course be within the realm of the table’s minimum and maximum bets. If a player chooses
a different value for his or her chips, this should be clearly stated at the table.
When a player stops playing, he or she should cash in his or her roulette chips directly at the table in exchange
for Casino Cosmopol’s value chips. Coloured Roulette chips that have not been cashed in directly will be cashed
in for the minimum value applying at the table unless the player can prove that they had a higher value when he or she was playing.
