Maybe some of you have wagered on the major tennis tournaments, (The French Open, Wimbledon, US Open, and The Aussie Open), but what most people don't know is tennis tournaments run from Jan until December every year. This makes tennis betting one of the few sports where year round profits can be made. What we love about tennis is the numerous amounts of betting options you have to choose from. Besides being able to place wagers on the actual winner of the match, you can also bet on the games line, the sets line, and other various props.
There are numerous ways that you can bet on tennis. Most books offer the traditional heads up matchups for example: Roger Federer -600 / Len Goundry +540. If one wanted to bet on Federer you would have to lay $600 to win $100. If Federer was successful in defeating Goundry you would collect your $100 win and have your $600 stake returned. If you were to wager on Goundry, you would lay out $100 to win $540 and if I was able to pull off the upset you would collect $640 total ($540 for winning wager + $100 original stake).
The first tennis tip we have is to know your players. Not just the top 10 guys or so, but as many tennis players that you can track the better. Normally at the beginning of the tournament the odds on the top 10 guys are going to be astronomical and are very seldom worthy of a straight bet. Knowing the ins and outs of the players in the rest of the field will create some profitable betting opportunities the first couple rounds.
Now we mentioned how the odds are going to astronomical on the top 10 guys the first couple rounds or so of the tourney in our first tennis betting tip. Well the next tip is don&'t be afraid to make a parlay bet on some of those big favorites. Tennis is one of the few sports where actually recommend betting parlays. A lot of the time the top 10 players are matched up against qualifiers or players that have no business being on the same court as them. A 3 or 4 player parlay can yield some nice dividends if all 3 or 4 guys are prohibited favorites to take the match. You can take a look at the tennis odds page if you would like to see the types of odds we are talking about.
The final tennis betting tip is more of a handicapping tip but it is imperative to know how each player plays on each playing surface. Tennis is one of the few sports where there are 3 different playing surfaces, clay, grass, and hard court. Some players are great clay court players but average on grass. Some players play better on grass than the hard court. It makes sense that some players play better on some surfaces than others as the ball reacts differently on clay, grass, and the hard court. Everyones strengths and weaknesses are different and knowing their style of play on each surface is a true test on how a player will fair on any given day. |
