A quick overview of Football…
The National Football League has 17 regular season weeks and, with few exceptions, most games are played on Sunday,
with one Monday night game each week. Each team plays 16 regular season games and has one bye.
The NFL is comprised of 32 teams, which are divided into two conferences, the National Football Conference (NFC)
and the American Football Conference (AFC). Within each conference, there are 4 divisions (eg, NFC East Division,
NFC West Division, etc.)
The play-offs begin in early January 2006, and lead up to the Super Bowl. The full NFL schedule and all other
pertinent information about the League can be found on the official site, NFL.com.
Please note that you will need either a copy of Excel or to use a free Excel reader off the web for this group,
as some information may be sent in Excel format.
Sports betting in general is one of the best forms of gambling to try and get a long term edge, for several reasons.
- There is a strong skill element, with some punters (or their information providers) knowing a
lot more than others. The less skilful punters subsidise the more skilful.
-
By shopping around on the internet for the best prices you can usually get sportsbooks on head
to head events down to under 103%, making it far better than, for example, horse racing. Sometimes
even arbitrage situations occur where the book temporarily falls to less than 100%.
-
Doing the form on sports betting can be very enjoyable in itself, as is watching the events.
This can be a good motivator to do the work required.
